Making it Happen
Dreaming is one thing but practical feasibility is another. The Project Manager, Building Project Committee (BPC) and Parish Church Council (PCC) scrutinise ideas and plans; regularly weighing up the spiritual, financial, architectural and social viability of the work.

Two years of research, consultation and planning have produced a design that we believe is the right next step for St James.  We now have  a genuinely feasible, though challenging, proposition. The Redevelopment and Restoration is being done in stages with work proceeding in manageable chunks.

Prayer, work and money are all key to this Renewal. Our vision is transformation. Creating incredible interior spaces to benefit all who live, work, worship or journey by St James the Less.

You can make a vital difference to how soon we can achieve this. It may be through offering your own skills or insights.  It may be through telling others and building our fund-raising network among friends. It may be through concerted prayer.  It may be through generous giving, or as one of our key donors.  Read on to see areas considered thus far.

PRAYER
  • Prayer support: is key. Come to St James on Wednesdays 12.30 -1.15pm for news and to meet together seeking God for every step of this project.
WORK
  • Thanks to our Architect who is working for us pro bono.
  • Thanks to the men's group who did demolition work for the refurbished school rooms.
  • Painters, Decorators and those who sanded and varnished the floor - thankyou for working for 'mates rates' !
  • Publicity and Printing - thanks to writers and designers for helping produce our  first leaflet.
We're urgently looking for a local printing firm to help with future publicity.

MONEY

Funding a project during a recession and in a heritage-sensitive context is extremely challenging. Our Parish is small and as a congregation we have a lower income than a decade ago.

To achieve this project therefore, we will not only need everyone in the church to contribute with seriousness, but also - essentially - we will need a small number of individuals to make some very large donations:  tens of thousands, if not more.  The church is also at a phase in its history when there are large numbers of former members who still feel positive towards st james the less. We hope that significant sums will be given by these people on hearing of the Renewal Appeal. If this is you, get in touch!

We are working hard applying to charitable trusts and Government, including Westminster Council for grants, mindful of the positive impact this Renewal will have both to the local area and beyond.

timing

We're looking to celebrate St James the Less' 150th Anniversary in October 2011 with the completion of this project. We believe that through hard work and sustained application together we can achieve this.
